Taskd has been accepted into the Mila Ventures Founder in Residence programme. Mila is the Quebec Artificial Intelligence Institute, based in Montreal, and the programme exists to propel founders building AI-native companies whose advantage comes from proximity to Mila’s researchers.
The residency runs for six months with the possibility of extension to a year. Founders work from the Mila Ventures shared co-working space in Montreal’s Little Italy, co-located with other AI startups and alongside the more than 1,000 researchers at Mila headquarters. Each company is matched with mentors across technical, operational and financial expertise, gains access to Mila graduate students interested in full-time and advisory work, and takes part in curated demo days and introductions to investors focused on deep technology.
Why it matters for Taskd
Taskd builds the layer that runs underneath the models: a structured graph of a business’s operational facts, the rules its experts already apply, and the evidence trail that lets every automated decision be reviewed. The research questions behind that work, from entity resolution across messy sources to the boundary between what a language model should decide and what a rule should, sit close to Mila’s own. Being in the building matters.
The programme also gives Taskd a Canadian home for its research relationships at the point where the company moves from demonstrations to deployments in complex operations. Taskd is headquartered in Toronto with a team in London and Ottawa.
We have taken a deliberately unfashionable position: use the model once, structure everything, and let rules and people make the decisions that carry consequences. Mila is the right place to test that position against the people advancing the models themselves.
